Modern Science & Quranic Miracles

Qur’an is a Miracle, which is chanted by each and every Muslim today. Muslim children are spoon fed with such theories which proves Qur’an to contain several scientific miracle. In this article we will see few such Miracles of Qur’an, and judge whether or not they are Miracles.

The first Miracle, we will discuss is the Miracle of Quran on Mountains, there are many Islamic sites dedicated to prove this Miracle to be true to ignorant world mass. Many people not with background of comparative religion study, and many other ignorant people fall in trap of such articles published by Islamic site, and they embrace Islam. Embracing Islam is a ultimate loss for Humanity and we need to save them by refuting such articles. So we start with article Published in an Islamic site ‘Islam Religion.Com‘, which claims of Miracles are as follows:-

A book entitled Earth is a basic reference textbook in many universities around the world.  One of its two authors is Professor Emeritus Frank Press.  He was the Science Advisor to former US President Jimmy Carter, and for 12 years was the President of the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC. His book says that mountains have underlying roots. These roots are deeply embedded in the ground, thus, mountains have a shape like a peg (see figures 1, 2, and 3).

Figure 1: Mountains have deep roots under the surface of the ground. (Earth, Press and Siever, p. 413.)

The False Prophet

Figure 2: Schematic section.  The mountains, like pegs, have deep roots embedded in the ground. (Anatomy of the Earth, Cailleux, p. 220.)Rahul Raj's The False Prophet

Figure 3: Another illustration shows how the mountains are peg-like in shape, due to their deep roots. (Earth Science, Tarbuck and Lutgens, p. 158.)

This is how the Quran has described mountains.  God has said in the Quran:

“Have We not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?” (Quran 78:6-7)

Modern earth sciences have proven that mountains have deep roots under the surface of the ground (see figure 3) and that these roots can reach several times their elevations above the surface of the ground. So the most suitable word to describe mountains on the basis of this information is the word ‘peg,’ since most of a properly set peg is hidden under the surface of the ground.  The history of science tells us that the theory of mountains having deep roots was introduced only in the latter half of the nineteenth century.

Mountains also play an important role in stabilizing the crust of the earth. They hinder the shaking of the earth.  God has said in the Quran:

“And He has set firm mountains in the earth so that it would not shake with you…” (Quran 16:15)

Likewise, the modern theory of plate tectonics holds that mountains work as stabilizers for the earth.  This knowledge about the role of mountains as stabilizers for the earth has just begun to be understood in the framework of plate tectonics since the late 1960’s.

Could anyone during the time of the Prophet Muhammad have known of the true shape of mountains?  Could anyone imagine that the solid massive mountain which he sees before him actually extends deep into the earth and has a root, as scientists assert?  A large number of books of geology, when discussing mountains, only describe that part which is above the surface of the earth.  This is because these books were not written by specialists in geology.  However, modern geology has confirmed the truth of the Quranic verses.

My Response:-

We would not touch the scientific details given in the mentioned site about mountains, because it is not our issue at hand. But we need to see, whether Qur’an says the same thing, what established science say today? So lets start with the verse quoted above.

“Have We not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?” (Quran 78:6-7)

Regarding this verse Tafsir Ibn Jalalayan writes:-

Have We not made the earth a cradle, a bed, like a cradle, and the mountains pegs?, with which the earth is tied down like tents are tied down with pegs (the interrogative is meant as an affirmative).

We should note, that Ibn Jalalayan says that Earth is tied down with the help of Pegs. Far from being a Miracle Qur’an is rehashing fables of ancient people. Ancient people thought that Earth was created over water, and is flat like a bed. So to stable earth from shaking, God has created Mountains to give them wait and support. We know one thing for sure, that surface of earth does not need any extra weight to support it. Mountains can only give extra weight to support earth in one scenario, when Muslims accept that Qur’an says that Earth is flat like sheet of paper and created over water, so to support it Allah have placed Mountains. This theory of Earth being created on water is mentioned in one of the Earliest Tafsir by Ibn Abbas.

[68:1]

And from his narration on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas that he said regarding the interpretation of Allah’s saying (Nun): ‘(Nun) He says: Allah swears by the Nun, which is the whale that carries the earths on its back while in Water, and beneath which is the Bull and under the Bull is the Rock and under the Rock is the Dust and none knows what is under the Dust save Allah. The name of the whale is Liwash, and it is said its name is Lutiaya’; the name of the bull is Bahamut, and some say its name is Talhut or Liyona. The whale is in a sea called ‘Adwad, and it is like a small bull in a huge sea. The sea is in a hollowed rock whereby there is 4,000 cracks, and from each crack water springs out to the earth. It is also said that Nun is one of the names of the Lord; it stands for the letter Nun in Allah’s name al-Rahman (the Beneficent); and it is also said that a Nun is an inkwell. (By the pen) Allah swore by the pen. This pen is made of light and its height is equal to the distance between Heaven and earth. It is with this pen that the Wise Remembrance, i.e. the Guarded Tablet, was written. It is also said that the pen is one of the angels by whom Allah has sworn, (and that which they write (therewith)) and Allah also swore by what the angels write down of the works of the children of Adam,

The above Tafsir makes it clear what Allah is really talking about in Qur’an 78:6-7, the next verse quoted by above mentioned site further confirms my point, as the verse says:-

“And He has set firm mountains in the earth so that it would not shake with you…” (Quran 16:15)

Mountains are result of Tectonic plate movements, and mountainous regions are more prone to Earthquakes, how can they stabilize Earth? The Mountainous areas have active Tectonic plate movements which results to more earthquakes, see here.  There is one more interesting point, which confirms that Qur’an says, that Earth is created over water and Allah made mountains to support them. It is Ibn Kathir’s explanation on Qur’an 43:10in which he says, “(Who has made for you the earth like a bed,) means, smooth, stable and firm, so that you can travel about in it, and stand on it and sleep and walk about, even though it is created above water, but He has strengthened it with the mountains, lest it should shake.” [Source]

Here is another source, which predates Islam but gives the same theory which we find in Qur’an.

French dramatist Cyrano de Bergerac in chapter 5 of his The Other World The Societies and Governments of the Moon (published 2 years posthumously in 1657) quotes St. Augustine as saying “that in his day and age the earth was as flat as a stove lid and that it floated on water like half of a sliced orange.

This is enough to prove that details of Mountains in Qur’an is neither miraculous nor something out of world. Muhammad’s direct or indirect source for Qur’an were Jews, Christians and Zoroastrians, and if the Qur’an details about Mountains is miraculous, then I have one more verse from Qur’an, which talks about mountains, it is Qur’an 50:1which reads:

Qaf. By the honored Qur’an…(Qur’an 50:1)

Ibn Abbas in his explanation of this verse says,

[50:1]
And from his narration on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas that he said in the interpretation of Allah’s saying (Qaf.): ‘(Qaf.) He says: it is an azure mountain overlooking this world, and the colour of the sky takes from it; Allah swore by it, (By the glorious Qur’an) and He swore by the glorious, noble Qur’an,

If Qaf is a mountain, and if color of sky is because of this mountain, then Muslim scholars need to find science in this verse too. Another Islamic Scholar Ibn Tustari, in his Tafsir says regarding the verse, :-

Qāf…[With this word] God, Exalted is He, made an oath by His strength (quwwa) and omnipotence (qudra). In its outer meaning it refers to the mountain which surrounds this world, which is the first mountain God, Exalted is He, created. Then after it, He created Mount Abū Qubays, which is the mountain which rises above Ṣafā. Beyond this, by a distance of one year’s journey, is a mountain behind which the sun sets, just as He said: until it [the sun] disappeared behind [night’s] veil [38:32]. It has a face like a human face and a heart like the hearts of the angels in gnosis (fi’l-maʿrifa). His words:…By the glorious Qurʾān.He said:This means that it is honoured above all other speech. His words:”[Source]

Now beyond any doubt, we can say that Qaf is a mountain, which surrounds the world and color of sky is because of this Mountain, so we need Muslim scholars to explain, how it is scientific and which is the mountain, which Allah is talking about?

  1. The mountain as peg is a late 1960’s discovery.
And you proving tafsir which is long before that.
If we know this in 1960’s how the man Who did tafseer undersatnd about how mountains is like a peg.

  3. Oh, and by the way Qaf is as much a mountain as Barack Obama is my grandmother.

Actaully, he might well be… I never knew my grandmother.

Great site- I learn something new every day!

    Keep up the great work…

  4. Not another “arguing from one-thing-to-another fallacy” also known as “unrelated conclusion” fallacy! No, please not another one! I dont think my aching cranium can stand much more drivel. Gosh, i think ive turned into another one of those pesky brain dead vegetables! Excuse me while i laugh my @ss off…

    Deary, deary me.

Why are all your responses directed towards the tafsir and not the quraan? You have merely proved that much of the tafsir is scientfically incorrect, but (magically) you draw the conclusion that the quraan is too!

    Wow, spooky or what…

    • Dear weareallkennydalglish,

Well you accused me of using logical fallacy known as “unrelated conclusion” . This was because I used Quranic tafsir to prove Quran scientifically incorrect. Well even if I use the Quranic verse, the outcome will be same.

This is a clear statement, ““Have We not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?” (Quran 78:6-7)”

Whether I use Tafsir, for much clearer explanation or not. This statement is unscientific, and I don’t need a Science degree to state that.

This is second clear verse from Quran, ““And He has set firm mountains in the earth so that it would not shake with you…” (Quran 16:15)”

Again whether I use Tafsir or not, this is unscientific. Now go please defend these verses and prove these are not unscientific.

      • The first verse you have quoted (78:6-7) does not contradict any scientific theory. Nowhere does it actually state the earth as being flat. I accept it utilises poetical imagery (as you will find throughout the quran) but I find this much more interesting than dry scientific terminology- makes for a very beautiful recitation.

But I’m sure you’d much prefer the poetry of Tennyson and Keats written using scientific jargon…

The second verse quoted is less clear. I don’t have the necessary background in geology to debate this point. I would be wary; there are many ways of interpreting this verse- but it so happens that some mountain types apparently have so called “roots” which are more extensive than the mountainous mass above the crust. This is in agreement with the “peg” part of the verse.

Current geological theory does not seem to support the second part of the verse regarding the stabilising functions of mountains. However, no theory is fixed in stone forever- research is still continuing, so you need to be careful.

I suppose an argument could be made that mountains prevent unrestrained continental drift (aka the “shaking” the quran talks about). The phrase used is “tameeda bikum”- which has been variously translated as “shifting with you” or “reeling with you”- illustrative of continental drift perhaps?

DISCLIAMER- As I stated above, I have absolutely no education in geology, so take my words with a pinch of salt. But I suspect you have no such background in geology either.

        looking forward to your reply

        • Thanks for your comment weareallkennydalglish ,

In your above comment you said, “The first verse you have quoted (78:6-7) does not contradict any scientific theory. Nowhere does it actually state the earth as being flat. ”

The verse says, “Have We not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?”

Neither Earth is like bed, as many other verses of Quran states earth is flat like bed, nor Mountains are as pegs.

Next you said, “The second verse quoted is less clear. I don’t have the necessary background in geology to debate this point.”

I guess you are not a true Muslim, nor you complete the Quran completely, as Quran itself says in many places that it is most clear book, easy to understand etc.. Then how you can say being a Muslim that it is a less clear verse. Further you don’t need a Master degree to state simple scientific facts(I guess you know what does ‘Fact’ Mean?). If someone says, “Earth is like a plate”, he is wrong for sure, and I don’t need a PHd. degree to correct him. In same way, if a GOD of universe states, that earth is flat, and mountains stabilize earth from moving is for sure a fake GOD.

Quran 16:15 states, “And He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and [made] rivers and roads, that you may be guided,”

For sure we know this fact, and is proven that Earth is stable not because of mountains, so this verse is contradictory to scientific fact, which proves that Quran is not a word of God.

        • Hi, Islam does not need any defense.
Quran is the word of God and the choice is yours. Either you believe in Allah and His Guidance or you follow the “ghost” writers who spread messages of hatred rather than unity on the internet.
Quran teaches the best qualities viz; 1. Believe in One God 2. Pray and remember Allah’s presence. 3. Fast in a year only one month 4. Give alms to the poor, a little bit from what you earn in a year. 5. Make Hajj once in your life time to strengthen your iman 6. Love and respect all man and women and children. Be kind to orphans and beggars. 7. In Allah’s presence we are all same only the good deeds earn more rewards 8. Defend your honor, chastity, land and fight the injustice for others too. 9 Do not drink or gamble 10. Believe in His messengers, Angels, Jinns existence and piety. Be Good, Do Good!

          • Plum,

We are discussing since few days, but our discussion is very unproductive. You choose to ignore what I write in reply of your comment, and you bring new topics, by commenting here and there. Anyways, I can’t leave replying to you, so I have to reply to all t\your comments.

            You said,

“Quran is the word of God and the choice is yours. Either you believe in Allah and His Guidance or you follow the “ghost” writers who spread messages of hatred rather than unity on the internet.”

You need to prove first that Quran is word of God, and as per the evidences which I have, I am sure that it is very word of Muhammad. So it does not matter, whether I follow Quran or not, because its word of a Immoral man. Also I am spreading what is fact.

Next you pointed out some good qualities of Quran, they are:-

Quran teaches the best qualities viz; 1. Believe in One God 2. Pray and remember Allah’s presence. 3. Fast in a year only one month 4. Give alms to the poor, a little bit from what you earn in a year. 5. Make Hajj once in your life time to strengthen your iman 6. Love and respect all man and women and children. Defend your honor, chastity, land and fight the injustice for others too. 9 Do not drink or gamble 10. Believe in His messengers, Angels, Jinns existence and piety. Be Good, Do Good!

First of all, please provide references for each point, and apart from that Quran also teaches, 1) Murdering Non-Muslims, 2) Raping slaves is allowed, 3) Pedophile, 4) Blind Belief, 5) IT preaches pseudo-science.

I don’t deny what is good in Quran (If any) , but there is much bad in it too. Now some y\of your points are useless. They are:-
Fast in a year only one month
Make Hajj once in your life time to strengthen your iman
Believe in His messengers, Angels, Jinns existence and piety.

Hope you will stick to the topic this time.

For the “Ghost” writers ref 3 : 118″…….who would spare no pains to ruin you; they love to hamper. Hatred is revealed by their utterances…”
For prayers and alms to the poor ref 2 : 110 “Establish worship and pay the poor due…….”.
Then for 1. Believe in One God ref 16 : 51 “….choose not two gods. There is only One God. So of Me, Me only be in awe’. Also 3 : 2

          • Plum,

I requested you to stick to a particular topic, because it will help us to reach any conclusion, as we are discussing things since last month, and we have not reached to any result. I need my discussion to be productive, but I don’t see it in discussion with you. Apart from this, you must know truth before switching the topic, and that can only happen when we stick to topic. I am not asking you, not to help others, definitely you can.

In your above comment you said, “I’l quote a few verses to prove to you that Quran teaches only GOOD.”

About this I would say that you need to understand what does ‘Good’ mean Islamically. As Allah himself explains what is Good, he says in Quran:-

Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not. Quran 2:216

So you see what is Good according to Allah, so don’t bring a Handful of verses, which may be Good. But that does not mean that we ignore the violent and Bad verses of Quran. Also I need to tell you that, I have read Quran many a times, and I feel more each time that it can’t be the word of God.

            Regards

          • Hi, anonymous Rahul Raj, Ref verse 5 : 8 “……deal JUSTLY that is nearer to your duty…..” Where are your alleged verses in the Quran on 1) Murdering innocent Non-Muslims, 2) Raping slaves is allowed, 3) Pedophile, 4) Blind Belief, 5) IT preaches pseudo-science. Where in the Quran are the verses to your above allegations?
Kindly, just quote, from Quran, the verses on paedophile :
quote, from Quran, the verses on Raping slaves is allowed :
quote, from Quran, the verses on blind belief :
quote, from Quran, the verses preaching pseudo-science:
and quote, from Quran, the verses on Murdering any innocent Non-Muslims:
I assure you that I’will thank you heartily and you will have succeeded with your project 100%.
But if you cannot as such content is alleged by only you in the entire world that should surprise you, Anonymous ‘Rahul Raj’, then know that YOU ARE LYING behind your veil. Where is this verse of paedophile in the Quran?

          • Plum,

I’ll quote verses from Quran for all my raised allegations. Starting with raping slaves.

            Quran 33:50:-

O Prophet (Muhammad SAW)! Verily, We have made lawful to you your wives, to whom you have paid their Mahr (bridal money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage), and those (captives or slaves) whom your right hand possesses – whom Allah has given to you, and the daughters of your ‘Amm (paternal uncles) and the daughters of your ‘Ammah (paternal aunts) and the daughters of your Khal (maternal uncles) and the daughters of your Khalah (maternal aunts) who migrated (from Makkah) with you, and a believing woman if she offers herself to the Prophet, and the Prophet wishes to marry her; a privilege for you only, not for the (rest of) the believers. Indeed We know what We have enjoined upon them about their wives and those (captives or slaves) whom their right hands possess, – in order that there should be no difficulty on you. And Allah is Ever OftForgiving, Most Merciful.

            Quran 23:6:- Except from their wives or (the captives and slaves) that their right hands possess, for then, they are free from blame;

Quran 4:24:- Also (forbidden are) women already married, except those (captives and slaves) whom your right hands possess.

You must be knowing who are ‘Right Hand Possessed’, and why any sensible man will call it a rape.
            __________________________________________________________________________________________________

            Murdering Innocent Non-Muslims:-

Quran 8:12:- [Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, “I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip.”

Quran 9:5:- And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Quran 9:29:- Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture – [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.

Quran 8:39:- And fight them until there is no fitnah and [until] the religion, all of it, is for Allah . And if they cease – then indeed, Allah is Seeing of what they do.

Quran 9:111:- Verily, Allah has purchased of the believers their lives and their properties; for the price that theirs shall be the Paradise. They fight in Allah’s Cause, so they kill (others) and are killed. It is a promise in truth which is binding on Him in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and the Quran. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? Then rejoice in the bargain which you have concluded. That is the supreme success.

These verses are not all, there are plenty more about fighting and killing..

            ________________________________________________________________________________________

            Pedophile:-

Quran 65:4:- And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the ‘Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubts (about their periods), is three months, and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise, except in case of death]. And for those who are pregnant (whether they are divorced or their husbands are dead), their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is until they deliver (their burdens), and whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make his matter easy for him.

For pseudo science I’ll give you link, from where you can read verses from Quran which preaches that.

            Pseudoscience of Allah

            Regards

          • Hi Dearest Raj, starting with verse in Quran 65:4:- Allah directs all the Muslim men what to do in regards to divorcing their wives and does not talk about committing sex with “under age girls” as you may have presumed and it to be! Surprisingly, you have totally misunderstood the verse as you are the only one who alleges that there are “pedophile” verses in the Quran, in the whole Universe, and now in particular the above verse!
Next, 33 : 50, “……..and a believing woman if she desires to give herself to the Prophet and the Prophet desires to ask her in marriage….”, so what is wrong if Prophet(pbuh) desires to have an extra wife through marriage??
For the war captives i.e. the girls from the unbelievers side during and just after the battle of Badr the Sahabas asked what to do with the war captives and so those verses were recited which allowed them to take those captive girls as their wives after converting them to Islam. There was no fortified Guantanamo Bay Prison then! Some of the captives were returned on ransom i.e. based on exchange of prisoners and others were retained, converted to Islam and married off. What is/was wrong with that???
You and I would have done the same…remember it was “war” time!
In regards to 8 : 12, 9 : 5, 9: 29 and all other “fighting” verses were revealed for that time when Prophet(pbuh) was ALIVE to bring courage to the believers who were very few yet (and maybe weak in faith yet), and to encourage them and also to avenge the atrocities committed by those pagans against the early Muslims who wanted to nip the bud in the stages of ovulation! “Fight against those who believe not”. Here, “those who believe not” refers to those disbelievers of that particular area and time and the verse is not directed to fight the non-believers the world over today. Kindly, note here that the word fight does NOT mean to kill but to endeavor. I have already gone to great lengths explaining to you that in reply to your earlier questions. Now who is going in circles?
You stick to your questions concerning your anti- Islam agenda and do not impose your authority over my thoughts as you have used words like “Jump”, “stick to a point” and”going nowhere”, okay? You quoted completely a very wrong verse (65 :4) on pedophile that you claim to exist in the Holy Quran!!!!

          • Dear Plum,

You need a crash course in Islamic theology, because you leave all those things from Quran which are against Muslims. I requested you to stick to the topic, but as always you came up with several topics. In your above comment you said,

“Quran 65:4:- Allah directs all the Muslim men what to do in regards to divorcing their wives and does not talk about committing sex with “under age girls” as you may have presumed and it to be! “

Well lets just see the verse, and you will get to know what it says about divorcing.

And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the ‘Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubts (about their periods), is three months, and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise, except in case of death]. And for those who are pregnant (whether they are divorced or their husbands are dead), their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is until they deliver (their burdens), and whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make his matter easy for him.

The verse clearly says that those women who have passed the age of monthly course, i.e. Adults, for them their period is 3 months. See the first line of the verse. In the next line Allah states, for those who have no course, i.e. NO MENSTRUATION till yet, which is for kids. For them their period is 3 months again.

Now you see Allah differentiated between Adults and Kids, this proves that the practice of pedophile was not only common among Muslims, but was also circulated by Allah in his book.

Next you said about 33:50:-O Prophet, indeed We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have given their due compensation and those your right hand possesses from what Allah has returned to you [of captives].

            About this verse you said,

“For the war captives i.e. the girls from the unbelievers side during and just after the battle of Badr the Sahabas asked what to do with the war captives and so those verses were recited which allowed them to take those captive girls as their wives after converting them to Islam. ”

First of all I would ask for your source of Information. Secondly, for a second just imagine that you are a war captive, and a self proclaimed prophet, who oppose your religion, kills your family and kins, and then desires to marry you after converting you to his religion. Will you accept that?

This is the same situation, which the right hand possessed faced in hands of Muhammad. Most of them were Jews and Pagans, and were forced to marry the companions of Muhammad and himself. And this would be considered rape without a shadow of doubt.

Lastly you said about the violent verses of Quran,

““fighting” verses were revealed for that time when Prophet(pbuh) was ALIVE to bring courage to the believers who were very few yet (and maybe weak in faith yet), and to encourage them and also to avenge the atrocities committed by those pagans against the early Muslims who wanted to nip the bud in the stages of ovulation! “

Please sir, bring the evidence of this claim, and please provide me source. I will be more than grateful, if you do so. But right now for you information, I will say that those fights which you are talking about were offensive fights led by Muslims against non-muslims. Furthermore there are many proofs, that the violent verses were revealed to forcefully convert Non-Muslims in to Islam, for ex 9:5.

Please bring the evidence for further discussion on this topic.

            regards..

          • Dear Raj, you said, “About this I would say that you need to understand what does ‘Good’ mean Islamically.

Also I need to tell you that, I have read Quran many a times, and I feel more each time that it can’t be the word of God”.

As you can see the Muslims hated to be engaged in warfare then as they are against warfare even now in this modern era. the above verse and the following verse 2 : 217 “They question you (O Mohammed) with regard to warfare…”. Raj, now ask yourself who questioned Mohammed(pbuh?)
It is very clear and distinct that Allah is telling those believers, at that time of the Prophet(pbuh), not to shun and hide in their homes when there was warfare declared against the Din of Islam. Nowhere does the Quran directs Muslims to kill the unbelievers the World over!
Quran teaches only GOOD, Be Good, Do Good. When I brought a handful of verses you still denied. There are NO violent and bad verses in the Quran, my dear Raj.
Also, you said that you(Raj) have read the Quran many times….. But know I would like to put to you very vividly that though you have read the Quran, many times, yet you have not understood it, from your wrong quoting of the verses that can be a proven fact about your mis-understanding of the Quran.
When you read the the Quran with negative aspect and fault findings agenda you will find that each verse of warning is suddenly directed towards you!
But when you read and understand the beauty of the Quran then your mind will open and find that each verse will become your Guidance in your small life that Allah gave you. Muslims have their own Book, their own Prophet who is for the whole of Mankind as well and their own religion, Muslims are not Terrorists but very peace loving people who respect others with profound love. Discard a few extremists as they exist in every religion. Quran IS the Truth and read only Quran!

          • Dear Raj, reply icons don’t appear once more, so I answer you from here. Infact, you need an urgent crash course and not I. The verse 65/4 states : ” and for such of your women as despair of menstruation, if ye doubt, their period shall be 3 months, along with those who have it not……….”, right?
The words “along with those who have it not” is a pedophile verse according to you, correct? But read it again. Do you now see what you had jumped? Funny you didn’t notice the continuity of the same verse.
Women, for those who have reached their menopause stage for some at times still get their menses randomly/interspersely (not monthly on fixed times) and there are others whose periods stop completely.
The above verse refers to such both stages. : ” and for such of your women as despair of menstruation, if ye doubt, their period shall be 3 months, along with those who have it not……….”. so, “along with those who have it not” is not a Pedophile verse and does not refer to having sex with the under age girls as you so wrongfully claim it to be so, and nobody in this world will accept your false interpretation inclusive of the strongest critics of Quran!

          • Plum,

I informed you before, that this blogs allows only 5 threaded comments. That is why I have launched a forum, you can visit it over here. You can post your comments over there, and I promise to post our discussion in debate section. Anyways, this is not a issue at hand.

You said in your above comment,

“Women, for those who have reached their menopause stage for some at times still get their menses randomly/interspersely (not monthly on fixed times) and there are others whose periods stop completely.
The above verse refers to such both stages. : ” and for such of your women as despair of menstruation, if ye doubt, their period shall be 3 months, along with those who have it not……….”.”

Ok, whatever you said is your own interpretation, and does not represents what Islamic authorities and scholars says. As I can present to no. of evidences that scholars believe that the above verse refers to Women and Girls of Young age.

See Ibn Jalalayan commentary as an example, he says:-

And [as for] those of your women who (read allā’ī or allā’i in both instances) no longer expect to menstruate, if you have any doubts, about their waiting period, their prescribed [waiting] period shall be three months, and [also for] those who have not yet menstruated, because of their young age, their period shall [also] be three months — both cases apply to other than those whose spouses have died; for these [latter] their period is prescribed in the verse: they shall wait by themselves for four months and ten [days] [Q. 2:234]. And those who are pregnant, their term, the conclusion of their prescribed [waiting] period if divorced or if their spouses be dead, shall be when they deliver. And whoever fears God, He will make matters ease for him, in this world and in the Hereafter.

            Ibn Abbas:-

(And for such of your women as despair of menstruation) because of old age, (if ye doubt) about their waiting period, (their period (of waiting) shall be three months) upon which another man asked: “O Messenger of Allah! What about the waiting period of those who do not have menstruation because they are too young?” (along with those who have it not) because of young age, their waiting period is three months. Another man asked: “what is the waiting period for those women who are pregnant?” (And for those with child) i.e. those who are pregnant, (their period) their waiting period (shall be till they bring forth their burden) their child. (And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah) and whoever fears Allah regarding what he commands him, (He maketh his course easy for him) He makes his matter easy; and it is also said this means: He will help him to worship Him well.

            Asbab Al-Nuzul by Al-Wahidi

(And for such of your women as despair of menstruation…) [65:4]. Said Muqatil: “When the verse (Women who are divorced shall wait, keeping themselves apart…), Kallad ibn al-Nu‘man ibn Qays al-Ansari said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is the waiting period of the woman who does not menstruate and the woman who has not menstruated yet? And what is the waiting period of the pregnant woman?’ And so Allah, exalted is He, revealed this verse”. Abu Ishaq al-Muqri’ informed us> Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Hamdun> Makki ibn ‘Abdan> Abu’l-Azhar> Asbat ibn Muhammad> Mutarrif> Abu ‘Uthman ‘Amr ibn Salim who said: “When the waiting period for divorced and widowed women was mentioned in Surah al-Baqarah, Ubayy ibn Ka‘b said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, some women of Medina are saying: there are other women who have not been mentioned!’ He asked him: ‘And who are they?’ He said: ‘Those who are too young [such that they have not started menstruating yet], those who are too old [whose menstruation has stopped] and those who are pregnant’. And so this verse (And for such of your women as despair of menstruation…) was revealed”

These are some of concrete solid evidences which cannot be denied, as these are reliable Tafsirs of Quran. Also tell me why does Quran tells about two kind of Women. One must be Adult, and other must be too young to menstruate, which is proved by above commentaries.

            Regards

          • Hi Dear Raj, Though I’ve decided to quit your forum due to my personal commitments elsewhere, I feel that I will respond to you for the final time, for your respect.
You always try to give various translators’ thoughts and their understandings of the verses. But those are “their” thoughts and are entitled to do so. However, I have noticed that inspite of their scholarly attributes they do make mistakes as they are humans too and are prone to err, right? Otherwise, why are there various translations of Quran?
I have given to you my understanding of the Quran and what a certain verse would mean to me in my understanding of it.
Take for example the verse Nisaa 4 : 3 “”And if you fear that you will not deal fairly by the orphans, marry of the women who seem good to you, two, three or four and if you fear that you cannot do justice then one (only) or that your right hands possess. …”
Kindly note that the above verse does NOT allow Muslims to marry or to take “any”woman / women in marriage as a General Rule. Nowhere, in the whole of Quran can you find a single verse. elsewhere which states on freedom of choice of marrying up to four wives! Why?
The above verse talks to the Custodian/s of the minor orphan female child/ren’s estate and refers to, in particular, to those mothers of the orphan girls who are also in custody and their husbands, maybe have been Martyred. Please note that it is a running verse means it does not stop suddenly nor starts talking about allowing muslims to marry other women in general, as various translators and narrators miss-represent it!
I humbly request you to check upon it by various translators and you will be shocked to see the results!
That is the reason why you must verify on your own before you start trusting the “religious scholars” and so do I get my answers directly from the Quran as it clearly states the very ringing bells in 6 : 116 – 117 ” “Perfected is the Word of thy Lord in Truth and Justice, There is a naught that can change His word.s……if you obeyed MOST of those on earth they would mislead thee far from Allah’s way. They follow naught but an opinion, and they do but guess…..He knoweth who ereth from His way, and He knoweth best the rightly guided”.
So, please refrain from showing me what others say about this or that as I do not want to criticise anybody nor any religion but to follow the Quran with my heart and soul!
Read Quran with positive mind and you will see and procure nothing but solace and a guidance!
