Heaven & Hell of Islam

As per Islamic authorities and Scriptures, those people who die believing, “There is no true god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger (Prophet) of God” will be sent to eternal Heaven and those who don’t believe in Allah nor the last day, and Muhammad to be messenger of Allah will be sent to hell, where they will reside forever. Allah says in Quran 3:85:-

And whoever desires other than Islam as religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

Now lets just see what are the characteristics of Heaven and Hell and we would track the sources or the reasons because of which Allah made such Hell and Heaven. Let’s start with Heaven:

Heaven

Quran 55:54:- [They are] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.

Quran 56:12-24:- In the Gardens of Pleasure, A [large] company of the former peoples, And a few of the later peoples, On thrones woven [with ornament],Reclining on them, facing each other. There will circulate among them young boys made eternal With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring – No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -And fruit of what they select And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, The likenesses of pearls well-protected,As reward for what they used to do.

Quran 76:21:-Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink.

Quran 78:31-34:-Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -Gardens and grapevines And full-breasted [companions] of equal age And a full cup.

Quran 39:20:-But those who have feared their Lord – for them are chambers, above them chambers built high, beneath which rivers flow. [This is] the promise of Allah . Allah does not fail in [His] promise.

So here we have seen the verses in Quran which talks about Heaven. In summary we can say that the promised heaven by Muhammad is a place, where river of wine flows, thrones of Gold and Muslims will wear bracelets of silver. Fruits hanging from two gardens and beds with linings of silk brocade. Wasn’t these things easily available to men in those days in many parts of world? Why then Allah promised such worldly pleasures to Muslims in Paradise?

It is because as George. Bush says in his book, ‘Life of Muhammad’, “he(Muhammad) studiously aimed to set forth in colors best calculated to work upon the fancies of a sensitive and sensual race, whose minds, in consequence of their national habits, were little susceptible of the images of abstract enjoyment.” He further adds, “the scorching heat of those tropical regions, the arid nature soil, and the consequent lack of verdant vegetation, made it natural to Arabs, to conceive of the most exquisite scenes pleasure, under the images of rivers of water, cooling drinks, flowery gardens, shaded bowers and luscious fruits.”

Muhammad was well aware  that a plenitude of these visible and palpable attractions, to say nothing of grosser sources of pleasure, was an indispensable requisite in heaven suited to the temperament of his countrymen. In simple words we can say, that his people and tribe to whom he promised the Heaven for believing in him and his message, were basically nomads and never or rarely enjoyed fruits and pleasure of river, vegetation, ornaments of Gold and Silver and cloths made of pure silk. So to attract them he promised a paradise, which will provide them all that which they have only heard off.

Hell

There are loads of verses in Quran, threatening the disbelievers with hell. Now we will see what are the features of Hell, with which Allah threatens the idolaters.

Quran 37:62-66:- Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)?Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire,The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils);Truly, they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith.

Quran 74: 26-29:- I will cast him into Hell-fire, And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)!Burning the skins!

Quran 73: 11-13:-  And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire, And food that chokes and a painful punishment –

Quran 7: 41:-They will have from Hell a bed and over them coverings [of fire]. And thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.

Quran 87:12-12:-Who will enter the great Fire and made to taste its burning, Wherein he will neither die (to be in rest) nor live (a good living).

So these are some of the characteristics of and ideal hell by Allah. Some important and often repeated characteristics are:- blazing fire, scorching heat, no food, thorny bushes, boiling water, living in condition in which you are neither alive nor dead, etc. Aren’t these conditions very similar to the conditions of Arabs in those days? They lived in barren desert, with only thorny bushes to eat off. They lived without waters, or say in scarcity of waters. The heat of the morning was as if its burning the skin.

This alone proves that Muhammad wrote the entire Quran not only by himself, but for Arabs only. The heaven and hell of Allah were based on the conditions and choices of Arabs, with no spiritual pleasure or sufferings.

  1. Hi, this is a very bias written source about the Qur’an, I have read the full Qur’an and in it mentions the most logical and useful things for a person in life. Well this could be a matter of a opinion you could say, but you clearly haven’t read any of the Qur’an and have made your opinion and found some verses in the Qur’an to support it. But didn’t you know the Qur’an reveals the science that we have only just discovered within a century, for instance the formation of the clouds, the rain, the inner shape of the mountains ‘peg-like’, how embryo cells become into a ‘blood-clot’ sort of substance then the discription of the fetus itself? How can a person like Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him), all those years ago when there was no technology present, know about the science of the world. Also you haven’t mentioned the Prophet’s (pbuh) history of how he lived his life, if he really did write the Qur’an and the Holy book isn’t a message from Allah then why didn’t he recieve any worldly wealth. He lived a normal life and was an example of a true Muslim and taught peace to the people ( like the the rest of the prophets did such as Jesus, Moses, Noah etc., however the original Holy Books are not present because of the people tampering with God’s message). He didn’t act or become a dictator or use his sitaution to run a dictatorship, and why would he do such a thing when he is one of the men Allah has promised to enter Paradise. Know your facts, if you don’t like a religion or something, back yourself up, you clearly don’t have enough knowledge to back your argument up at least. It’s embarrasing enough that your’e a type of person to not embrace other people’s religion, so go and do your research and meet and talk to the scholars of the religion, where they can properly answer your queries. To be honest you don’t even know the basic of the religion and your immediately judging, and I really pity those who are actually reading your article and are believing the opiniative rubbish you have written about a religion of which you have no full knowledge of. Misenterpretations are based on your arrogance, lack of understanding and respect. Shame on you and I hope you’re eyes are opened to the truth.
    thanks.

    • LOOK WHO I FOUND IN HELL!

Which narrations state that the locations of Abu Bakr and Omar in Hell are worse than the place of Satan?

      ( Section : Misdeed )

      Question :
In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.
O Allah, send Your blessings upon Mohammad and the Family of Mohammad, and curse their enemies and make the sound of their punishment harm the people of Hellfire.
The Wahabi Nawasib took a part of your blessed lecture out of its context with the purpose of leading people astray. However, this actually has led people to become guided, and it particularly led many Shi’a to search deeper into the true religion of Shi Islam.
In essence, you said that most of the Shi’a do not know who their first and greatest enemy is…and then you said that if we go back to the narrations of Ahlul-Bayt; we’d discover that Omar is in the deepest part of Hell, and that Abu Bakr is placed a little bit higher than him, and that Iblees is placed a little bit higher than them both. Can you please mention this narration for us as well as the other narrations that specify the locations of Abu Bakr, Omar and Iblees in the Fire of Hell, and which state that Iblees has a higher position of Hellfire than these two? And can you please provide the sources?
May Allah grant you the best.
      Al-Darazi

      Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, and may blessings and peace be upon our Master, Mohammad, and his good and pure Family, and may the curse of Allah be upon all their enemies.
      The office’s answer:
May peace and the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you.
May Allah increase our rewards and your rewards.
After consulting the Sheikh, he pointed to the following narrations:
Al-Ayyashi (may Allah’s satisfaction be upon him) narrated in his Tafseer on the authority of Imam al-Sadiq (may peace be upon him), who said: «When the Day of Resurrection approaches; Iblees will be brought in seventy chains and seventy manacles. Thereupon Abu Bakr will look at Omar (being fastened) in one-hundred and twenty manacles and one-hundred and twenty chains. Iblees will then look (at Omar) and say: “Who is this man whom Allah has multiplied his punishment, whereas I have tempted all of this creation?!” Then it shall be said: “He is Omar!” Then he will say: “For what reason was he given this punishment?” Then it shall be said: “For his injustice caused upon Ali (may peace be upon him).» [1]
Sulaim, son of Qais al-Hilali (may Allah’s satisfaction be upon him), narrated on the authority of Salman al-Farsi (may Allah’s satisfaction be upon him), who said: «When the Day of Resurrection approaches, Ibless will be brought tied in a rope of fire, and Omar will be brought tied in two ropes of fire. Upon then, Iblees will rush towards him and say: “May you be bereaved from your mother! Who are you? I am the one who has tempted the first and the last, and still I am only tied with one rope, whereas you are tied with two ropes!?” Then he will say: “I am the one who commanded people and was obeyed, meanwhile Allah commanded people and was disobeyed.”» [2]
Al-Mufid (may Allah’s satisfaction be upon him) narrates on the authority of Imam al-Sadiq, who narrates of the Commander of the Faithful (may peace be upon them both), who said: «One day I went to the rear end of Kufa and Qanbar was walking in front of me. Suddenly, Iblees came towards us, and I said: “You are the evil old man!” He said: “And why do you say this, O Commander of the Faithful? Indeed, I shall narrate to you a conversation between me and Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He) alone, there was no third among us; when I fell to the Fourth Heaven, I cried: ‘O my God and my Master! I do not think You have created any creature more evil than me!’
«Then Allah (Exalted is He) revealed unto me: ‘Yes indeed, I have created someone who is more evil than you. Go to Malik so he can show him to you.’ Then I went to Malik and said: ‘Al-Salam sends peace upon you, and He tells you to show me who is more evil than me.’ Thereupon Malik took me to Hellfire, and he removed the highest cover (of the highest level of Hell) and black fire came out, which I thought had taken me and Malik. He said to it: ‘Calm down!’ and it calmed. Then he took me to the second cover, and fire that was more black and more hot than the first came out.
«He said to it: ‘Disappear!’ and it disappeared. And so it went all the way to the seventh cover, and each fire that came out from every level was more intense than the previous one. Then fire came out from it (the seventh) and I thought it had taken me and Malik and everything Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He) has created! Then I placed my hand on my eye and said: ‘Command it, O Malik, to disappear, and it shall disappear!’ He said: ‘You shall never disappear until a certain known time!’ Then he commanded it, so it disappeared.
«Then I saw two men; in their necks were chains of fire that hanged them from above, and on their heads were people with whips of fire and they were whipping them. I said: ‘O Malik, who are these two?’ He said: ‘Have you not read what is written on the bottom side of the Throne: ‘There is no god but Allah, Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah, You supported him and assisted him with Ali.’ Then he said: ‘These two are their enemies and oppressors.'”» [3]
Sheikh Hassan, son of Sulayman al-Hilli, narrates on the authority of Huzaifa (may Allah’s satisfaction be upon him) who said in the long narration of Farhat al-Zahra, where he narrates of Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings be upon him and his family), who narrates of Allah (Exalted is He) who said the following in a Hadith Qudsi where he promised to curse and punish Omar (may Allah’s curse be upon him): «And I will burn him along with his companions in the deepest part (of Hellfire) to such a degree that Iblees will be treated better than him and curse him!» [4]
      Please pray for us.
