Replying Sami Zaatari’s Challenge

One of the Islamic apologist, Sami Zaatari in his sites challenge critics of Islam to prove two things. What are those two things, we will see below in this post. Before lets see what he writes about Prophet Muhammad. Sami Zaatari says:-

There is no doubt that the prophet Muhammad was a great man, and a great example to mankind, he was kind, honourable, and always cared for others. Yet anti-Islamic’s try to paint a different picture of this blessed man, they claim he was a terrorist! Quite an absurd claim really, especially when one reads the authentic hadiths with an open heart, for instance check this article out, and you decide for yourself if he is a terrorist:

Yes, Muhammad was a noble man, and great example for Muslims only. He only cared for Muslims, Money, and Sex. This is not only claim, but I’ll prove this in my post using authentic sources of Islam, which Sami has asked for. Further, he says it is absurd to claim, such a blessed man as a Terrorist. But, was he really a blessed man? Or, is it really absurd to say him terrorist. If so, even Osama Bin Laden was blessed, holy man ( As some Islamic apologists claim, as Zakir Naik). Anyhow, lets see what challenge he gives to critics of Islam. Challenges are as follows:

1-     Bring me one single Islamic source which documents or quotes the prophet Muhammad saying go kill innocent women and children.

2-     Bring me one single Islamic source which documents the prophet Muhammad killing a child.

We will deal with each challenge separately, lets start with the first challenge.

Bring me one single Islamic source which documents or quotes the prophet Muhammad saying go kill innocent women and children.

It is a easy one, as Islamic scriptures are full of such violent commands by Muhammad. Lets begin with Ibn Ishaq’s narration on conquest of Jewish town Khaibar.

Qinana al-Rabi, who had the custody of the treasure of Banu Nadir, was brought to the apostle who asked him about it. He denied that he knew where it was. A Jew came (Tabari says ‘was brought’) to the apostle and said that he had seen Qinana going to a certain ruin every morning early. When the apostle said to Qinana, ‘Do  you know that if we find you have it (the treasure) I shall kill you?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ The apostle gave orders that the ruin was to be excavated and some of the treasure was found. When he asked him about the rest (of the treasure?) he refused to produce it, so the apostle gave orders to al-Zubayr Al-Awwam, ‘Torture him until you extract what he has.’ So he kindled a fire with flint and steel on his chest until he was nearly dead. Then the apostle delivered him to Muhammad b. Maslama and he struck off his head, in revenge for his brother Mahmud. [ Ibn Ishaq’s Sirat Rasul Allah, Page – 515]

As Sami demanded to quote single Islamic source, I’ll quote many. Let’s see what Bukhari records:

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Book 8, No 367 says:

Narrated `Abdul `Aziz: Anas said, ‘When Allah’s Apostle invaded Khaibar, we offered the Fajr prayer there yearly in the morning) when it was still dark. The Prophet rode and Abu Talha rode too and I was riding behind Abu Talha. The Prophet passed through the lane of Khaibar quickly and my knee was touching the thigh of the Prophet . He uncovered his thigh and I saw the whiteness of the thigh of the Prophet. When he entered the town, he said, ‘Allahu Akbar! Khaibar is ruined. Whenever we approach near a (hostile) nation (to fight) then evil will be the morning of those who have been warned.’ He repeated this thrice. The people came out for their jobs and some of them said, ‘Muhammad (has come).’ (Some of our companions added, “With his army.”) We conquered Khaibar, took the captives, and the booty was collected. Dihya came and said, ‘O Allah’s Prophet! Give me a slave girl from the captives.’ The Prophet said, ‘Go and take any slave girl.’ He took Safiya bint Huyai. A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Allah’s Apostles! You gave Safiya bint Huyai to Dihya and sheis the chief mistress of the tribes of Quraidha and An−Nadir and she befits none but you.’ So the Prophet said, ‘Bring him along with her.’ So Dihya came with her and when the Prophet saw her, he said to Dihya, ‘Take any slave girl other than her from the captives.’ Anas added: The Prophet then manumitted her and married her.” Thabit asked Anas, “O Abu Hamza! What did the Prophet pay her (as Mahr)?” He said, “Her self was her Mahr for he manumitted her and then married her.” Anas added, “While on the way, Um Sulaim dressed her for marriage (ceremony) and at night she sent her as a bride to the Prophet . So the Prophet was a bridegroom and he said, ‘Whoever has anything (food) should bring it.’ He spread out a leather sheet (for the food) and some brought dates and others cooking butter. (I think he (Anas) mentioned As−Sawaq). So they prepared a dish of Hais (a kind of meal). And that was Walima (the marriage banquet) of Allah’s Apostle .”

Another Sahih Hadith says:-

Bukhari, Vol 5, Book 59, No 369:-

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: Allah’s Apostle said, “Who is willing to kill Ka`b bin Al−Ashraf who has hurt Allah and His Apostle?” Thereupon Muhammad bin Maslama got up saying, “O Allah’s Apostle! Would you like that I kill him?” The Prophet said, “Yes,” Muhammad bin Maslama said, “Then allow me to say a (false) thing (i.e. to deceive Ka`b). “The Prophet said, “You may say it.” Then Muhammad bin Maslama went to Ka`b and said, “That man (i.e. Muhammad demands Sadaqa (i.e. Zakat) from us, and he has troubled us, and I have come to borrow something from you.” On that, Ka`b said, “By Allah, you will get tired of him!” Muhammad bin Maslama said, “Now as we have followed him, we do not want to leave him unless and until we see how his end is going to be. Now we want you to lend us a camel load or two of food.” (Some difference between narrators about a camel load or two.) Ka`b said, “Yes, (I will lend you), but you should mortgage something to me.” Muhammad bin Mas−lama and his companion said, “What do you want?” Ka`b replied, “Mortgage your women to me.” They said, “How can we mortgage our women to you and you are the most handsome of the ‘Arabs?” Ka`b said, “Then mortgage your sons to me.” They said, “How can we mortgage our sons to you? Later they would be abused by the people’s saying that so−and−so has been mortgaged for a camel load of food. That would cause us great disgrace, but we will mortgage our arms to you.” Muhammad bin Maslama and his companion promised Ka`b that Muhammad would return to him. He came to Ka`b at night along with Ka`b’s foster brother, Abu Na’ila. Ka`b invited them to come into his fort, and then he went down to them. His wife asked him, “Where are you going at this time?” Ka`b replied, “None but Muhammad bin Maslama and my (foster) brother Abu Na’ila have come.” His wife said, “I hear a voice as if dropping blood is from him, Ka`b said. “They are none but my brother Muhammad bin Maslama and my foster brother Abu Naila. A generous man should respond to a call at night even if invited to be killed.” Muhammad bin Maslama went with two men. (Some narrators mention the men as ‘Abu bin Jabr. Al Harith bin Aus and `Abbad bin Bishr). So Muhammad bin Maslama went in together with two men, and sail to them, “When Ka`b comes, I will touch his hair and smell it, and when you see that I have got hold of his head, strip him. I will let you smell his head.” Ka`b bin Al−Ashraf came down to them wrapped in his clothes, and diffusing perfume. Muhammad bin Maslama said. ” have never smelt a better scent than this. Ka`b replied. “I have got the best ‘Arab women who know how to use the high class of perfume.” Muhammad bin Maslama requested Ka`b “Will you allow me to smell your head?” Ka`b said, “Yes.” Muhammad smelt it and made his companions smell it as well. Then he requested Ka`b again, “Will you let me (smell your head)?” Ka`b said, “Yes.” When Muhammad got a strong hold of him, he said (to his companions), “Get at him!” So they killed him and went to the Prophet and informed him. (Abu Rafi`) was killed after Ka`b bin Al−Ashraf.”

So, even this Ok with Sami. He thinks deceiving and killing someone as a Noble act, which was done by a blessed Prophet. Now, lets see was  Ka`b bin Al−Ashraf killed? Ka`b was killed because he criticized Muhammad and his teachings.  One Hadith even says, that Muhammad used to attack unarmed men, and killed them and took their women as captives.

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 3, Book 46, No 717 says:-

Narrated Ibn `Aun: I wrote a letter to Nafi` and Nafi` wrote in reply to my letter that the Prophet had suddenly attacked Bani Mustaliq without warning while they were heedless and their cattle were being watered at the places of water. Their fighting men were killed and their women and children were taken as captives; the Prophet got Juwairiya on that day. Nafi` said that Ibn `Umar had told him the above narration and that Ibn `Umar was in that army.

This cannot a noble act of Blessed man, as this Hadith clearly says that Prophet used to attack tribes, without inviting them to fight or without warning them. He even took their women as captives. So, this much is sufficient to reply his first challenge. Now, I’ll move to his next challenge.

Second Challenge:-

Bring me one single Islamic source which documents the prophet Muhammad killing a child.

Second challenge is identical to the first one, the only difference is that he has removed Women in the second one. As, we see already the second challenge is met, through first one. But, still lets add some more source, which says that Muhammad even allowed to kill innocent children.

Sahih Muslim, Book 19, No 4321 says:

It is narrated by Sa’b b. Jaththama that he said (to the Holy Prophet): Messenger of Allah, we kill the children of the polytheists during the night raids. He said: They are from them.

This proves, Muhammad allowed to kill innocent children, just because they were of polytheists. This is inhumane, and barbaric. The one who consider such acts as Noble and Holy, by a blessed man, is too Inhumane. Killing a child is heinous, and such man cannot be Messenger of God. The very next Hadith repeats the same.

Bk 19, Number 4323:

Sa’b b. Jaththama has narrated that the Prophet (may peace be upon him) asked: What about the children of polytheists killed by the cavalry during the night raid? He said: They are from them.

Now, both of the challenge is met. Let’s see what Sami Zaatari replies about it. I don’t accept him to acknowledge facts rationally as he is Brain washed, believer of death Cult. But let us save others from accepting such a violent death cult.

  1. Wow!
    What a clever response!
I don’t know if you just like quoting stuff out of context or you’re just a fool?

    The Challenge was:
Bring me one single Islamic source which documents or quotes the prophet Muhammad (SAW) saying go ‘KILL INNOCENT WOMEN AND CHILDREN”
yet you provided narrations totally off the topic.

    Let’s go one by one!

1.The first hadith you posted is something not even near to the topic in discussion.
Which is about ‘Extracting’ Infromation out of an enemy, something which any Army General would do and the reason he’s killed is not because of not giving out information but to avenge the death of Mahmud’s Brother.
Conclusion: (No Woman or Children even mentioned in the narration)

2.The second hadith of Sahih Bukhari, still doesn’t even comes close in response to the challenge posed by Sami. It’s a simple narration of the conquest of the city of Khaibar and prophet’s ”Marriage” to Safiya bint Huyai. The prophet (SAW) set her free and married her and even gave out a walima (A Wedding Feast)
Conclusion: (Still no mention of killing of any Woman or Children)

3.The second hadith from Sahih Bukhari you posted is still not addressing the challenge but I’ll still address it.
The Narration is about Ka’ab who was an arch enemy of Islam in the early days.
He not only wrote poems attacking the dignity of Muslim women but he also incited the Quraysh to go kill and fight Prophet Muhammad (SAW), therefore the prophet had every right to go and send someone to kill Ka’b for doing such a thing. There was no injustice done at all.
In today’s legal system, if you incite murder that is seen as a crime and you yourself are guilty of murder as well. This is exactly what Kab did; he incited murder and violence, so therefore he was taken care of.
Conclusion: (No killing of any woman or children is mentioned)

4.The third hadith from Sahih Bukhari is still a fail try from your side.
The comment you made about the hadith was that ”Unarmed” people were killed during that raid. I didn’t find the word ”Unarmed” in the narration.
Infact the only people killed were those who opposed.
    ”..Their fighting men were killed…”
Now obviously they didn’t fight without a weapon did they!
Conclusion: (Still No killing of any woman or children is mentioned)

    5. The last two hadith is the only one which mentions the killing of any woman or children.
But was it ordered by the Prophet (SAW)?
    The answer is NO!
The hadith is just about Prophet Muhammad (SAW) confirming that the women and children killed were from polythiests.
But there is no proof that Prophet (SAW) ever ordered them to be killed or he praised the actions of them getting killed.
It only narrates that if women and children get killed (Undeliberately) then there is no sin on the soldiers.
The Answers to the narration (4321 & 4323) you mentioned from Sahih Muslim is found in the Hadith just before the one you mentioned which is (4320 & 4319):
”It is narrated by Ibn ‘Umar that a woman was found killed in one of these battles; so the Messenger of Allah (SAW) ”FORBADE THE KILLING OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.” (Muslim Bk19. # 4320)

Let me remind you with the Challenge made by Sami once again:
Bring me one single Islamic source which documents or quotes the prophet Muhammad (SAW) ”SAYING, GO ‘KILL INNOCENT WOMEN AND CHILDREN”

    You didn’t meet the Challenge!

So, In the end I would like to say to you
    ”Try Again”
    Embrace Islam (Insh’Allah)
